SENtric was born out of an absolute belief in person-centred approaches and a desire to empower children and young people to access education in a way that is meaningful to them.

SENtric combines personal and professional experiences with postgraduate qualifications, ensuring a holistic understanding of the educational landscape. We aim to collaborate with all partners to secure positive, aspirational-driven outcomes for children and young people.

Who we are

Director:  Dawn Dyer BA(Hons), MSc, PGDE, MBPsS

My interest and work in the world of SEND began when my 3rd child was diagnosed with Autism before she was 3 years old. A few years later my youngest was also diagnosed and they, their older siblings and my ever-patient husband continue to inspire me every day.

For the past 15 years, my family and I have been on quite a journey and one which I’m sure would resonate with many others. When the children were younger, I ran a parent support group where we shared our stories and supported one another. This was invaluable for many of us and my involvement with this taught me that whilst we often had many things in common, our individual journeys were as diverse and unique as our children. It has been a journey of highs and lows, challenges and achievements, frustrations and euphoria…life’s wonderful rollercoaster!

Aside from this very personal experience, I have worked across local authorities in both permanent and interim positions. I have casework experience across the statutory assessment and review processes and have previously managed large caseloads and coordinated a team of casework officers. I have written, reviewed and co-produced EHCPs, have been involved in panel decisions relating to placements and additional funding and have also prepared appeal bundles and represented the LA at mediation and tribunals. I have prided myself in the close working relationships that I’ve built with families, schools and cross-sector colleagues throughout this time.

I previously completed my initial teacher training, specialising in SEND, and have experience of teaching and supporting children and young people with a range of needs. I also hold a Cert HE in social work and a MSc in psychology; my psychology research thesis explored the issue of personalising communication as part of the educational review process and is published on the University of Chester's open repository. Personalising Communication during Educational Reviews with Children who have Special Educational Needs (openrepository.com)

I formed SENtric to draw all of these experiences together and to support others, in whatever capacity, to promote positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND. I am always looking for new opportunities and would warmly welcome any enquiries. I look forward to getting to know you.

For Local Authorities and Educational Settings

SENtric recognises the pressure that LAs and educational settings are under in working to fulfil their statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated legislative frameworks.

We can offer remote casework, EHCP plan-writing and review services to local authorities to help secure positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. We can also work with educational settings to support with applications for statutory assessments, managing EHCP reviews, as well as in developing and embedding an inclusive ethos across day to day operations and working practices.
